Tools and Hardware Reviews of Air Supply Mini-Mate Personal Ionic Air Purifier--Clear

Customer Review: A miracle device!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this unit for my commute to work using public transportation.

I have an allergy that can be aggravated by a simple cold; so I want to protect myself as much as possible when away from home and car where I have several air cleaners and ionizers. Having good air quality in public places is truly priceless.

The minute I turned the unit on, it was like experiencing a shot of cold energetic fresh air! The operative word is "energetic"; I had never experienced this kind of "vitality" from air. The novelty of this makes it as much a "fun" device.

The specs are excellent, and it's a good all around unit to have, especially when going into crowed places and public restrooms.

Forget about getting an Ipod, get this thing instead; it will change your life!

On a more serious note, although no one can promise complete protection against flu viruses, this could be one of the better preventative measures. The manufacture even states potential for protection from certain biological agents.

Customer Review: My life savior
Summary: 5 Stars

I have suffered from asthma for a long time. Last year I had walking pneumonia seven times. My doctors said I had to wear a masks 24/7 or leave my state of Michigan. Moving was not an option and a mask was not practical. So through a secret recommendation of a nurse. I found this device. The O-Zone can be an irritant to people with asthma (I have no problem with it). But with my circustances everything was. I did a lot of research on the company and product before I made my purchase. I am happy to say so far I have not been sick or had a bad attack since using the air supply. It's not always going to stop the asthma but it has reduced my symptoms by 75%. The minimate's opening is delicate and sensivtive to water. You can't let it get wet by one drop of rain or it shorts out you battery(rechargables). It doesn't help a lot outside because the wind can take the focus off your face. You should buy the rechageable batteries and charger. It saves a lot of money on batteries. If you are a suffer of indoor allerigies this is a great product.

Customer Review: Good and not good
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought one to fight against my mold allergies anywhere anytime. It really does work, but the instructions indicate that it should be worn right under your chin with the provide lanyard. I have found the amount ozone production to be high and uncomfortable. If worn under my chin, my eyes would start watering and itching because of the highly oxidizing ozone gas. Nowadays, I wear it with a cellphone hoister. It works great that way. I can still smell some ozone, but it is not as bad as having it blow in your face. The AS150MM adds 48 ppb of ozone to ambient ozone. The maximum safe level (continuous) exposure for humans is 50 ppb. AS150MM only gives 2 ppb of margin to work with. Creating distance between the unit and my nose increases that margin. I mostly use my unit indoors because ozone levels are lower indoors than outdoors. During high ozone days, I neglect using it. Chronic asthma patients should probably stay away from getting this. It may trigger a bad asthma attack.

Customer Review: No more travel germs!
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought two of these about a year ago for my husband and I. We travel quite a bit overseas for his job. We both would always wind up catching some nasty cold or worse on the plane until we started wearing these. Neither of us have gotten sick at all since we bought these and have been on about 6 Trans-Atlantic flights! After about an 18 hour travel day the battery is pretty much dead. So we have to change it out each time. The batteries are CR123A, which are about $17 for a two pack. A bit pricey, but sooo worth it to not be sick. I only gave this a 4 star because I do get some very odd looks when I have this around my neck on the plane. It probably wouldnt be as noticeable, except for the fact that the Clear Shell on mine shows a blinking light when it's on. Every single flight somebody says "um...whats that"? I can only imagine what they think! I highly recommend this, but try to buy the all black and not the clear! You wont regret it, if you get sick when you travel!!

Customer Review: Happy little 'Ion Mate': Travel protection
Summary: 4 Stars

I have been wanting one of these for a long time and FINALLY ordered it on the eve of a longish trip with different travel-legs (flights) just after having had an unusually persistent cold (3 weeks) AND the Swine Flu panic was in full-swing. I wasn't buying into the health-tsunami media frenzy, but I DID feel some positive effects of the Air Purifier while immersed in stale 'plane air'- if only a sense of 'protection' and freshness with the ion stream. It also seemed to slightly soften the after-effects I typically get from the altitude changes after making such trip. Am happy i got it and so far battery life seems reasonably good. (Local battery shop told me not to bother with rechargeables in this particular size; says they are not very cost effective or long-lasting.)
