Tools and Hardware Reviews of Wellington G1016S0200 Solid Braid Nylon Rope, 1/4-Inch by 200-Foot, WhiteCustomer Review: Good enough I guess Summary: 3 Stars
First, let me say this is pretty much the first time I've shopped for a specific type of rope. Normally I just get whatever they have, or what I have in a bucket outside. So when you read this, keep that in mind please.
The rope itself came on a nice sturdy reel, in this case plastic and thick cardboard core. The start of the rope was stuck a little to the rest of the rope though. Probably when they measured and melted the end it was still slightly liquid when it touched the rest of it. Maybe this is normal though, again I don't really have a basis for comparison. I did get at least 200' though, maybe even a bit more, so no complaints there.
While the rope doesn't seem terribly stretchy, and does seem to hold knots well, I haven't really tested it thoroughly yet. Also, I'm not too sure if this is really a true solid braid nylon or not. Again maybe it's because I don't have the experience with types of rope, but to me "solid braid" says the rope is made up of just that material. However, in this there is a core to the rope, sort of like yarn. This core does allow the "shell" to slip around a little, although I had to use a small section of rope to get it to slide.
For 20 bucks, and having to use a small section to get the slide, this is a pretty good deal even if it isn't a "true" solid braid. However, because I haven't tested it out a lot, the possible stretch and slide, possible poor spooling, and normal cost I'm giving it 3 stars. If it's not on a good sale you'd probably be better off getting Crawford-Lehigh SNR812 1/4-Inch by 1200-Foot Solid Braid Nylon Rope instead. Yes, it's normal price is basically double this, and the current price (107 for Lehigh and 20 for this) is basically 5x more, however you're getting 6x the rope. Whether the Lehigh rope has a "core" or not though I don't know. Nor do I know if it's even supposed to.
