Tools and Hardware Reviews of Westinghouse 7814565 Turbo Swirl 30-Inch 6-Blade Ceiling Fan, White with Opal Globe

Customer Review: Looks nice, but overall really disappointing.
Summary: 1 Stars

My opinion is much the same as others here who like the appearance, but once installed - have found some serious shortcomings.

I installed mine in a 10 x 13 bedroom that I use for a home office. It is definitely enough fan, and it does do a capable job. My instruction manual DID show the opening on the light fixture for attaching the blades - however I did deviate a bit by attaching the blades prior to hanging the fixture. But there are issues that I feel demonstrates the lack of quality of this product;

The fan wobbles more than even a bottom-end model should, which indicates poor quality control. I've installed many fans over the years - this is the worst in this respect from my experience. Clearly YMMV.

The fan hums due to making the ceiling into a sounding board. This is due to a lack of vibration isolation. The fix is rubber feet placed between the ball and the hanger socket - easy fix, but the buyer should not have to improvise like this.

The lamp is limited to a candelabra base lamp. I have purchased CFL's in this size, but they are hard to find.

The only redeeming quality I can think of for this fan is that it can be installed in tight spaces such as a bathroom, hallway or laundry room where more traditional fans are too large.

Still overall, this is a poor fan - or my sample is a poor example. Definitely keeping the box on this one!!!

Customer Review: I'd Suggest Staying Away From This Fan
Summary: 1 Stars

First.... I can't agree with others here in regards to ease of assembly. I am mechanically inclined, but I still think that it shouldn't be too tough for an average Joe as long as they know the difference between a regular and a phillips head screwdriver. But I'd suggest that it's a moot point. I'm very disappointed in this fan. I may have just gotten a bad one, but it's noisy and not balanced particularly well, to the point of it being practically unusable at night even on a low speed. And the fact that it's relatively pricey adds insult to injury in my opinion (similar size fans are available at Lowe's or Home Depot for much less money, though I'll admit that they're not quite as modern looking). I should have returned it, but I knew that I wouldn't use the fan that much, and the thought of disassembling it, re-packing it, and paying to ship it back was enough to keep me from doing just that. I'd suggest looking at a different fan.

Customer Review: This fan sucks
Summary: 1 Stars

i can't tell you how pissed off I am am at westinghouse and Amazon. i am fairly handy, but this fans set up is a disaster if you buy the light with it. The light and fan come together and the instructions forget to mention how to separate them to attache the fans. There is no room to operate between the small space between the fan motor and the light housing so they have to come apart. And there is no guide. i had to throw it out because i messed up the wiring trying to separate them. i wouldnt touch a Westinghouse product again. I wish I could have given it no stars but Amazon doesn't let you. Otherwise thats what it would be.

Customer Review: Excellent Small Fan
Summary: 4 Stars

This fan is excellent in a small room.
Daniel Fitzpatrick said "this fan sucks" because there was no instruction manual about how to attach the blades.
I too was puzzled at first but if you look "up" to the blade area from the "bottom" where the light goes (as it hangs on the ceiling WITHOUT the globe attached) there is a place to put a screwdriver through...there were no instructions explaining this so I gave the fan 4 stars.
If they added an instruction manual it is definitely a 5 star product.

Customer Review: Back to Amazon to order a second one
Summary: 5 Stars

I was a little skeptical about this fan at first because of its small size, but I ended up loving it. I have no idea why other reviewers had such a hard time putting it together--it's certainly no worse than any other fan I've ever assembled and installed myself. 30 minutes and it was all done. Only problem is, I put it up in a room that has two fans and now I need another one to match it. Buy it--can't beat the price and the lifetime warranty!
