Our original icemaker would stop working now and then and the only fix was to remove it and let it thaw for an hour or so. Being about 12 years old, the plastic was flaking off the metal ice tray and there were bits of rust. After the last failure, I started searching and found this one. Even though it started working again, I was really disgusted by the rotting plastic film and decided to order this as a replacment.
It arrived in a couple of days and except for the white plastic ice tray, it looks identical to the original. I only had to remove the knockout for the filler tube and plug in the proper wire harness. The whole removal and install process took about 15 minutes total, but I had a lot of experience in removing and installing the old one.
It started producing ice in a little over an hour and the "cubes" are very close to the size from the original icemaker. It's nice to know that the size it adjustable, but I'll leave well enough alone for now.

I have a Whirlpool model GS6SHEXNS02 Side-by-Side Fridge with in door icemaker. I purchased the shown ice-maker. It arrived within a couple days as advertised. I removed my old ice maker, and swapped a couple parts onto the new unit. I then hooked it up, and plugged the fridge back in. New unit did not fill instantly, and I am kind of impatient, so I just primed it using a turkey baster, and about 4 to 6 ounces of water, and that was it. Within a couple hours the first load of ice dumped, and the unit refilled on its own. I came home today from work to a full ice bin. This was fantastic if you ask me. It definately beat a 150.00 service call only to find out I would have had to pay another 100.00 for the ice-maker to be replaced, or even worse having one small part replaced on an old unit for that price. As far as difficulty I would give it a 3 out of 10 on the install. If you can handle a nut driver, and a screw driver you are in business.Customer Review: DO NOT Buy this item, you will be sorry!

DO NOT buy this item, as the unit you will recieve is not the same as the one pictured, or described. Unit came without shutoff arm, wiring harnesses, installation hardware or instrcutions. Called seller to inquire and was told amazon made a mistake and has the wrong picture displayed. According to the CSR, this has happened to several other people as well. But guess what, for a mere extra $20 they offered to sell me one that looks just like the picture. This is an absolute bait and switch, false advertising, etc...Seller also would not authorize a return or refund. Buy at your own risk! Part number that arrived is W10190965, mfr is FSP. Part Number 4317943, be sure this item has the ice tray area in the tan color Teflon coating, and NOT white. This is not a new item as advertised, but a refurbished unit!
In my case the ice maker worked for about twenty cubes and froze up, my best guess was the white tray area was not non stick.
It was hot and humid August month, I got it fixed, and all the repair guy did was replace 4317943, with the one as in the picture. This unit had the ice tray area in the tan color Teflon, works like a champ.
So I am out the additional postage and insurance I had to pay to send the defective unit back. Just a real inconvenience!

When installing this replacement icemaker be sure to use a small level. If the icemaker is not level the water will overflow and make a mess. Yes I made the mistake so you wont!! The on/off arm is smaller and shaped differently than shown in the picture so I used the old on/off arm. The kit came with several different wire harnesses(4)and two tubes. I didn't need to replace the water tube. All in all this was easy to install and the best price that I found. The manufacture name on the box is Supco (Sealed Unit Parts Co. Inc.). Part name on box is RIM500 Modular icemaker service kit. Replaces: Whirpool 4317943, 978556, Maytag and subzero.
