The filter that arrived was not fabricated by the company that makes the OEM Filters for Whirlpool - this filter is a aftermarket replacement. The o rings that are part of the filter are smaller than the o rings that are on the OEM. Not an issue for water quality but could be a problem during installation - they provide a lubricant for the seals so to reduce the chance for the o rings to foul during installation. The water tastes fine, but the ice cubes produced are cloudy. Before the new filter was installed, the ice cubes were more translucent with the old filter. I will go with the OEM filter listed on Amazon next time and save about $14 compared to Lowes.Customer Review: Works great

Other then the price of these things it does what It's supposed to do. We usually reset the light on our refrigerator once before replacing the filter but this last time I think we did it 4 times or so. After installing this filter I was amazed at the taste compared to the used filter we had. We didn't really notice how bad the water coming from our fridge was until after I installed this filter. Safe to say we won't be resetting the light on our fridge that many times again.

Before I bought this I tried a cheaper knockoff brand (can be found in my reviews) and it was not a good experience.
Then I bought this one, the actual Whirlpool brand, and it resolved the issues we had with the knockoff brand.
CONS: It's a little bit difficult to remove/replace these, and you do have to run quite a bit of water through to get rid of the initial dusty residue, but those issues were both to be expected.
PROS: Way better than the cheap knock-off brands, quality product, and excellent tasting water.
I'm definitely sticking with these from now on.

Seems silly to review a filter. Still, I'm going to. Not so much the filter but the online purchase. I shop'd around and the price here was the lowest. Add ground shipping and it was still not worth it to me to drive out and buy the unit locally. I found the same filter for as much as $20 more. I also received the filter I ordered --- which is nice --- and it fit! Nice work Amazon :) Does it make a difference in the fridge? I don't have a clue. The girlfriend insisted it be changed...and so it was. Me, I drink rum... Not fridge water. And I really don't care if my ice cubes are from filtered water or not! Like some other reviewers recently, I did not receive a genuine Whirlpool filter as pictured in the description. I received a "Water Sentinel" brand filter. I does fit the refrigerator--mine takes the filter in the lower grille (but it's a Kenmore made by Whirlpool). However, it's not what I believed I was purchasing. The filter itself is very lightweight which makes me question if there's as much going on on the inside as there is in a genuine whirlpool filter. Yes, the price is cheap. No, I'm not going through the hassle of returning it. But buyer beware! :(
