It isn't clear on this website or on the Kitchenaid site what the actual difference is, and this is made worse because it appears the description for 4396805 is NOT correct on Amazon. One part of the description says Class II particulates and another part lists Class I. I am not an engineer or chemist, but I have an actual box from Kitchenaid that compares the two side-by-side, and the 4396810 removes smaller particles and more stuff (like asbestos and turbidity). Nowhere do I find a micron size for the two filters, but somewhere I read it only a 1micron filter can remove cysts (bacteria like Giardia?), but that the smaller the filter, the slower the flow of water.Customer Review: Does the job

This is the filter needed for my Whirlpool refrigerator. The previous one I had produced water that was odd tasting. This one is much better although not as good as my old reverse osmosis system.
The unit is not difficult to install although I do not like crouching down and installing the unit. I think the filters that are actually inside the refrigerator are more convenient, but they take up valuable internal space and do not last as long.
Under typical usage the units should last about 6 months.

This item is an easy replacement for the original equipment that came with the refrigerator. There are many 'so-called' universal replacement filters; BEWARE. This is a good match based on the mfg model number. I has been in place for a couple of weeks now with no mishaps, leaks etc. Follow easy directions provided with the filter and purge it with two gallons of water before using. Water is initially cloudy due to the carbon based filter charging; but, clears after about a gallon and half.

I can believe that the oil filters I buy have a wrapper and these don't. Would it be too much to ask to put a simple tamper-evident wrap on the filter neck? I used to work at Lowes and watched people return these filters because they didn't "fit". What is to stop someone from draining, drying, and returning the filter for a refund? How do you know their dog didn't slobber on it? When I received these filters and saw the poor factory packaging, I slapped the return label on the box and sent them back to Amazon.Customer Review: Love, love, LOVE the Price of these Filters!

After finding my coffee water filters on Amazon, I thought,hmmm....I wonder if they carry my refrigerator filters? And they do and what a great price! I saved over $10 a filter by shopping on Amazon. The shipping was free with the Super Saver and I received my filters very quickly. I love the convenience of the two pack. When I use that second filter, I know to place an order for my next pack. I'm looking at Amazon in a whole new way - not just books and toys!
