Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whitmor 6056-344-N Supreme Cart, Chrome

Customer Review: Pretty sturdy, Note: comment re: flipping shelves untrue
Summary: 4 Stars

First, I have to give a bit of a warning. Other reviews will note that the shelves are not flat, that there is a bit of a "lip" on the shelves, kind of like a guardrail. One of the other reviewers claims that ir you want a flat shelf, all you have to do is install the shelves upsaide down, so the lip hangs under the rail. I spoke to Whitmore customer service to make sure that would work. They pointed out to me that the four holes on each shelf taper, so that if you flip the shelve and then insert the poles, they won't lay properly. The result will be a cart that is wobbly and won't support the weight quoted if the cart is properly put together. What difference does tha make? Well, if you're planning on hanging things over the edge of the shelve, or maybe laying something largef than the shelve on top of it, the guardrail will prevent you from doing so. Luckily, that turned out not to be a problem for me. But I did "play" with it a bit before putting it together according to their instructions, and I can see where they are telling the truth; it would be less stable. (Apparently, you *can* flip the shelves on some of their larger versions of the shelving.)

That said, it was easy to put together. The instructions were clear. Some parts were slightly cosmetically different, but in ways that were meaningless. The casters seem like they're on the cheap side, but the locking mechanisms work (at lease for now). The cart is solid, rolls nicely, looks great, and I'm actually making use of the guardrail. On the whole I'm quite please.

Customer Review: Best cart on wheels!
Summary: 5 Stars

What a deal!
When I first got my cart in pieces, I had some misgivings about putting it all together. After I read the directions and opening all the separate parts, the doubts slowly disappeared. Just following the steps as directed, the cart finally took shape. Now, I can appreciate the sturdiness and super construction of the Whitmor cart.
One can't buy the materials separately and put together a better cart than this. Having adjustable shelf heights are a definite plus.
I found this cart on Amazon at a fantastic price with free shipping.
Getting it was a fluke. I needed something to hold my cooking supplies and a platform for my Wok cooker. I had planned to build one out of plywood etc. The materials cost over $50 and add to that, time & labor.
With lazy-susans, one could place all condiments, spices, herbs, oils etc......... on those turn-tables and Voila!
A compact cooking center in a small kitchen My Japanese and Chinese cooking is all set.
One can't find a better cart than this anywhere and the deal on Amazon is a no-brainer. For what the other carts are selling for, one can get several and still have money leftover, you can buy stuff to put on them.
Enjoy!

Customer Review: Great Heavy Duty Chrome Rolling Shelves!
Summary: 5 Stars

These chrome shelves are wonderful, they hold tons of even very heavy stuff, and you don't have to lift it all anymore, these shelves just wheel it all, about, no sweat! great price, I got three! they totally transformed my service porch, from ugly and dusty and stuff everywhere, to pretty, and now I can move them, even when they are full of stuff, so I can clean underneath them; and everything that was all over the place is now neatly stored on my three shelves! That room has been transformed from absolutely horrible, to beautiful, with just a hundred bucks (got three!)! They stack old newspapers perfectly, and then you can roll them over to your recycle bin, without hurting your back with lifting them all, makes short work of recycling those horrid heavy newspapers! all I have to say to you about these shelves is GOFERIT! I got three for $33. no shipping/each, but they are worth ten bucks more/each, in my opinion!Whitmor 6056-344-N Supreme Cart, ChromeWhitmor 6056-344-N Supreme Cart, Chrome

Customer Review: Decent small cart-Design flaw
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought and received two of these for use in my home office. I had intended on putting printers, scanner/fax/computers on these shelving units. These are sturdy enough for these purposes, but they are definitely more flimsy than the big units found at costco or other places. The wheels do not provide great confidence in being able to sustain heavier weights without having the metal dowel break through the light plastic.

A serious flaw in the design must be noted. While most wire shelves have the supporting web/framework (sides) on the bottom of the rack, these were welded so that the shelves create a slight box effect. This means the top of the shelves are NOT flat/straight across. The lip that protrudes up creates for a weird balancing act when placing heavier items that aren't long/wide enough to go over both sides. So if you put something long (front/back), the item would rest only on the front metal lip and the back metal lip creating two serious stress points. only if the item is small enough to reside within the front/back or sides, would you be able to spread the weight out amongst all the lateral runs of wire.

Customer Review: Not as sturdy as others say
Summary: 3 Stars

This cart cost me only around $29 on sale, and it's perfect for my microwave oven on top and my toaster oven in the middle. Some say you can turn the top rack upside down to accommodate a microwave oven without having the door hit the sides of the shelf. This is not true. The cart is designed for each shelf to be placed with the correct side up, otherwise it would just rest insecurely. I did easily resolve the problem with the microwave door by putting a cork coaster under each of the microwave's front two feet. Now it opens perfectly.

This cart is not quite as sturdy as others say. On a hard kitchen floor, you can lock two of the four castors, but this doesn't help. Even if locked, the cart can just slide around on the hard floor, like when you push buttons on the microwave. I have it pushed against the wall, and that helps, but it still shakes when I press microwave buttons.

For the price I think it's perfect for my kitchen. It is sturdy, just not quite as sturdy as other reviewers are raving about.
