Tools and Hardware Reviews of Whitmor 6056-344-N Supreme Cart, ChromeCustomer Review: My favorite plant or computer supplies stand Summary: 5 Stars
These versatile & sturdy stands roll easily & fit under standard counter heights, so they can be used virtually anywhere in the house/garage/office/dorm. I have two I use for portable plant stands (on each stand I use 4- 27 watt fluorescent replacement bulbs fit into 4- 5.5" shade size clamp lamps and space them two per shelf on the top two shelves on the short sides angled down to the lower two shelves where the plants are--I can leave these plugged into a power strip in the kitchen during winter days and move them at night to a dark space out of the way; plant supplies are kept on the top shelf). Two others I use right now for peripheral computer equipment & supplies (printer, scanner, paper, etc). I have stored 14# dog biscuit boxes perfectly on these under the overhang of a breakfast bar. My daughter in college uses these to store her computer supplies under her raised up dorm room bed. These are honestly worth the price because they don't tip, don't warp, don't crack and they LAST.
Customer Review: Nifty cart - thank heavens for previous reviews! Summary: 5 Stars
I am not, emphasize the NOT, mechanically inclined. I detest putting things together, which is why I approached this project with some trepidation.
First of all, the dual threaded piece is already attached to the ends of one of the poles - thank heavens a previous commenter mentioned that - spent a little time looking for it until it dawned on me. Also, there are 8 little black plastic pieces whose purpose is not mentioned on the instructions. Four are for caps if you don't use the casters; four are to be placed on the poles before screwing in the casters.
Don't do what I did and turn the cart upside down to install the casters. The shelves are basically in place via gravity. Oops. On go the casters, rearrange the shelves and voila! It's a great size for the corner of my kitchen. Plus, putting the bloody thing together did give me a feeling of satisfaction. My kitchen floor is tile and the casters don't seem to be an issue.
Customer Review: Upside down shelves Summary: 2 Stars
I found the price and general construction to be nice, but ran into the issue during assembly that the shelves are "upside down". There's a flat part of the shelf, and a sort of "lip" around each edge, and you'd think the lip part would go on the bottom so you could, for example, have a box sitting on the shelf and it would hang off the edge. But the shelves actually go in with the lip part up, so there's an edge of about an inch around the shelf.
The holes on each corner of the shelf are slightly conical, with the wide part on one side, and they fit over a plastic piece that goes on each rod. But if you tried to flip the shelves and the plastic pieces, any amount of weight on the shelf would push it down off of the mounts.
Maybe there's some trick that's not obvious to me, but I couldn't assemble the shelves the right way. It works okay, but it makes me wary to buy any of the other shelves from this manufacturer.
Customer Review: Wheels scratched hardwood floor. Summary: 3 Stars
In my limited experience, the whitmoor metal shelving is on par with metro at a much lower price-point. This cart is sturdy and works quite well for me except for one flaw I unfortunately found.
It was too late by the time I found out that my cart, with approximately 40lbs of weight on it, left tracks all over my hardwood. Upon inspection, it was easy to see that the wheels have a small lip on the inside of them from coming out of a mold. So instead of having an inch surface distributing the weight they had a fraction of an inch lip taking the weight and digging down into my floor. This was certainly unexpected and my new flooring is certainly now flawed to the visible eye.
While I could possibly try to sand down the lip, I now just use my cart as a stand instead. Live, learn, share.
Customer Review: Great cart for the money!! Summary: 5 Stars
I received my cart yesterday and put it together myself...once you figure out the instructions, it's pretty easy to put together (I got a little lost trying to find the screws that connect the two bars...finally realized they were already inserted at the end of one of the bars).
Anyway, it looks slightly bigger than what is pictured but it's the perfect size for where I wanted to put mine. I was disappointed for a few minutes when I realized that right when I was about to finish, one of the pieces that holds the shelves in place was split in half. However, someone with brains thought about including two extra ones so that definitely saved the day!
The casters could be better, but all in all it's a nice, strong and sturdy cart. Recommended indeed!
