Tools and Hardware Reviews of Yard Machines 31C-040-800 Snow Fox 12.5-Inch 8.5 Amp Electric Snow Thrower

Customer Review: Works better than expected!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have used this machine just once. We had an early winter snow storm of about 3 inches. I have a small property so I was done in no time. No strain on my back, perfect! The plow trucks came around and plowed snow back into my driveway and the Snow Fox ate that up like a kid eats candy. No problem. This machine clears the snow right down to the concrete. I thought it might leave a thin layer of snow or ice on the ground. But it scrapes ALL of the snow up and throws it. The only problem I have with it is the cord outlet receptacle. The small circular cord receptacle would not allow the 50 foot Coleman cold weather extension cord fit so I had to use another extension cord. I don't think the other extension cord was the correct power rating but it worked anyway. So now I have to return the Coleman cord back to Amazon.com. That's the reason for the 4 stars, otherwise I would have given it 5 stars.

Customer Review: not worth the money
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this blower to do only my small sidewalk and in front of my garage doors for I have someone who plows my driveway...The price was right and what I had read lead me to believe this was just what I needed. When the blower arrived it took only a couple of minutes to put together - we had just had a snow storm and the timing was perfect for me to use my new blower.. I started to blow the snow which was only 3-4 inches deep and about 15 minutes into it something snapped on the inside of the blower and that was the end. I finished the rest by hand, packed this unit back into the box and returned it. I was totally dissapointed in the workmanship and would not recommend this product to anyone. However Amazon was great in handling my problem & I will continue to use thier
service which has always been #1 in my opinion. Hope you found this very helpful..

Customer Review: Perfect for our mid-Atlantic winters
Summary: 5 Stars

I looked around at other small snow throwers and decided on this one for its light weight and small size (hangs on hooks on a pegboard in our garage). It is really perfect for the small snow falls that we typically get in the mid-Atlantic. We even got good use out of it this year despite the unusually snowy winter. It is very easy to use. Yes, it does have its limitations as other reviewers have noted. You need to use it when snow is no more than 4-5 inches. The left and right throwing angles don't project the snow very far (but the straight shot sends the snow well clear of where you need it to be removed from). Get a good extension cord. A Rigid brand extension cord was recommended to me in Home Depot and it was a good purchase - it doesn't get stiff in the cold. We really are happy we selected this and highly recommend it.

Customer Review: Bad Shipment
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this product and arrived about a week later. The problem is that is that the flimsy box arrived completely torn, and pieced together with tape. It was ripped on both sides, and on top. This is not a box suited for shipping. The tool inside has not padding, and I'm sure it was banged a lot during shipping. Haven't snowed yet, so couldn't try it on snow. It does turn on though.
Don't buy the combo with the extension cord, since they don't fit together. The Cord Outlet Receptacle in the machine is smaller than the Coleman extension cord end, so you can't plug it in. I had to return that extension cord, and get another one at Home Depot. In summary, no complains about the machine yet (I hope it works, but the shipping sucks, and the extension cord Amazon suggests you buy, does not fit.

Customer Review: not for deep or heavy wet snow
Summary: 3 Stars

We just tried out the Snow Fox snow thrower, and while it might be good for normal fluffy snow under 4", 7" of super-heavy snow requires 3-4 passes, having to hold the unit up and 'shave' 2" per pass. In the end, it was faster than shoveling, but only a little.

Since it uses different muscles, once you get tired from shoveling, use the snow-thrower for a while to rest the other muscles.

The snow we tried it on was 7" - 8" of wet heavy snow. Where normal snow is 10" of snow to 1" rain equivalent, this studd was reported to be 3" of snow to 1" rain. Nasty stuff.

It DID move the snow, but simply couldn't handle the heavy wet stuff if more than 2-3" at a time. I was slightly worried about burning it up, so I rested it after every 5' x2 passes wide.
