Customer Review: You get what you pay for

Usually when I'm looking for a product, I do an exhausting amount or research. I needed a hoop shower rod for our bathroom ASAP because we had guests coming in town. That combined with the need to save a little money pointed me in the direction of this Zenith rod. I've found that when you have many similar products to choose from, the cheapest one is usually not the best one to get. Especially when all the other products are at lease twice the price. This product further proved that theory. All the other hoop rods I could find were at least $80. This one was only $44 so I decided to take a chance and hopefully get surprised. No such luck. Although the design is good and, to be fair, it does the job, the quality of this hoop is very low. See below for pros and cons:
Pros:
- Very inexpensive
- Design and look of the hoop is good
- Does what it's supposed to do as long as you have some DIY skills
Cons:
- Flimsy, light weight steel
- Supposed chip free paint chips like crazy
- Hollow wall anchors that came with it are a joke (to be fair, most that come with a product are)
- Difficult installation (see below for details)
Note on installation: There is some metal pipe cutting involved in the installation. On the one hand, this is good because it gives you some flexibility in the installation. On the other hand, you have to know your way around a hacksaw, and be confident that you can measure accurately and cut straight, otherwise you could run into a problem, or worse, ruin the rod. I consider myself, pretty handy, yet I cut one of the pipes a little crooked, and had to do some improvising. Also, you need to know exactly how to mount things into the type of wall you have. I had to drill through tile and drywall so I had to go and buy a set of tile bits. Finally, there is no way to do this by yourself. It is a two person job.
All that being said, it's up, doing the job, and looks pretty good. It was worth the risk to save a good amount of money.
I would say, I rate this good for the price, but bad on general quality.
