Tools and Hardware Reviews of Zenith 34941 Hoop Shower Rod, White

Customer Review: cheap in price and quality
Summary: 2 Stars

I purchased this item to make a surround shower curtain for a corner tub with only two walls. The product itself was flimsy. The rods were attached to each other by inserting one into the other, then securing with a small screw. Each rod was sturdy, but when you put them together to form the ring, the connection was very loose and made the rod kind of flop all over the place. I ended up have to put tape around the inside joins, so I could make the product sturdier. In addition, the way the supports attached to the rods was troublesome. You had to pound a plastic piece into the end of the support rod. Well it was really difficult to get this piece to go in straight. And if it is crooked, the screw will not fit and the support will not be at a 90 degree angle to the rod. Also, there was a danger of pushing the piece in too far. I know they did this so that you could adjust the size of the support rod, but it just all seemed a little flimsy to me. I was also disappointed that I could not adjust the ceiling bracket to be shorter than 18 in. and the ceiling support was not at all adequate to support the weight of the rod and curtains. The screws they provided to put the ceiling support in were #8 screws that you HAD to screw into a ceiling joist in order that the whole thing would not come down on your head. They provided cheap plastic molleys, but these would never work. If you didn't happen to have a joist at the point where the rod needs to go into the ceiling, you are out of luck. They should have come up with a support (like a ceiling fan support) to make this connection. In addition, one person had to hold up the entire rod, while another had to measure mark cut the rod, and drill for the ceiling support. How long can you stand with your arms up in the air? I ended up with a mess in the bathroom, and no curtain rod installed because I couldn't adjust where the ceiling support went in. I know this is the least expensive option here, but it just doesn't work. I don't think it's worth $200 + for a rod to make this happen either. In future, I think I will buy copper piping from the local hardware store and make my own rod.

Customer Review: GOTCHA!
Summary: 1 Stars

When I bought this shower hoop two weeks ago the description read- "fits area up to 66" long and 28" wide". The box it arrived in says the same, and the spanish under it says "se ajusta... ". You could see how I would think it might work for my 66" clawfoot tub? Well the thing is only 44" long ID and it is not adjustable nor are there extra rods you can buy to make it longer. They have updated their description on Amazons website with the accurate measurements but the box is probably still the same. Don't be fooled- the thing is less than four feet long and not adjustable, so while it may "fit" into a 5 1/2 foot space, it is much smaller than that! I haven't been able to test its rigidity since it is too small, though unless you get very lucky and have studs in the right spots, the three sheetrock anchors wont stand up to regular use. Also note another reviewer says that a clawfoot style vertical shower rod is a required anchor point, so if you don't have one of those think twice. It might be an OK product for the price, but I give one star for (un)truth in advertising.

Customer Review: Worked on my corner tub! Withstands my 2 year old.
Summary: 5 Stars

I wish I could give this SIX stars. My 2 year old is not gentle with her opening & closing of the shower curtain and I kept waiting for the day the hoop would crash down on us. It hasn't happened!

It is very well constructed and works both for a stand alone tub and a corner tub! I'm cheap and didn't want to pay $40 for the circular shower curtain. My dollar saver? I used 2 of the heavy vinyl shower curtain liners instead.

If you only have a tub and are longing for a shower but don't want to spend $500 on the upgrade, buy this!

Customer Review: Functional, easy to install, good price
Summary: 4 Stars

It's certainly not the prettiest product out there, but the price is right and it fit our needs perfectly. Installation is fairly easy, although 1) you do have to be careful you don't mistakenly interchange parts (there are some similar parts which only slightly vary in size) and 2) it is helpful to have someone help you (in hindsight - I worked alone) when actually connecting to the wall/ceiling.

Overall, it does what it's supposed to and feels sturdy enough.

Customer Review: Used for a corner bath tub
Summary: 5 Stars

This product arrived on time with all the pieces. The construction was sturdy with no blemishes and the instructions were clear. We actually used this on a tub in a corner instead of its intended use on a free standing tub. For some reason, L shaped shower curtain rods were much more expensive than this piece even though they use less material to be constructed. It seems to be working fine.
