I find amazon.com customer reviews the most helpful on the web, but this is one time I will disagree with the majority. Maybe it depends on how you use it, but I found this item to be cheap and awful.
Don't get me wrong, it looks great, but it comes with alot of problems:
1. The clippers simply DO NOT work. I tried them on an average plastic packaging (headphones) and not only could they not break the plastic, the clipper edges wouldn't even meet! I was astounded by how bad this was.
2. The cutter is fine - but no better than one for 2 bucks at Home Depot - and the whole unit must be locked up to use it, which is awkward.
3. The item itself is not ergonomic. It is unclear to me why it must be so big, and it did not even fit in a large coffee mug (and I mean LARGE) with some pens as to keep it handy.
Finally, the clippers broke and I threw it out.
I regret this purchase.

Don't get me wrong; a universal opener like this is a great idea, and the features seem appealing.
My issues with this particular product, however, began before I'd even opened it.
Unlike the opener in the picture, my Open It (a Christmas gift, so it may or may not have come from Amazon) came in a full plastic clamshell pack. In order to get it out, I needed. . .well. . .it.
Since then I've had plenty of opportunity to use the cutting portions of the product, although I haven't used the screwdriver yet. In order to use the little blade, we have to keep constant pressure on the button to slide it out--there's no way to lock it out. Sometimes when I push the slide to use that blade, my hand accidentally flips the lock on the handle open, and the "dependable cutting jaws" slip open.
I'm not saying that the Open It won't open things for you, but it's just not as user-friendly as I'd like. Give me a Swiss Army knife any day. . .

The Zibra ZPCOPEN-OR is the fifth different hard plastic package opening tool which has been purchased. This is the only one which actually works. The tool is essentially heavy duty shears with a double right angle offset between the handles and the cutting blades. The offset is the key feature which allows the tool to maneuver around the angled edges of hard plastic product wrapping.
Forget all of the other opening tools, do not pass go, and head straight for this product.
One can only imagine the collective cynicism of the manufacturers of plastic package opening tools. Every manufacturer, including Zibra, ships their hard plastic package opening tool inside of its own indestructible hard plastic packaging. Rest assured. After using your own creativity to extract the Zibra ZPCOPEN-OR from its original hard plastic packing, this tool will be able to handle all subsequent plastic packaging.

This seemed like a good idea when I purchased it. I found it awkward to use, and if you have to put a lot of force while closing the jaws, and do it in a certain way....OUCH!!! I have pinched myself more than once using this thing. I believe this to be incredibly poorly designed. They found a big need for something to open these ridiculous packages that are out there these days, and they came up with this. Having run large departments in large public companies, I cannot believe anyone did any customer testing with this before shipping it to the public.
I finally gave this up and put it in a garage sale.... then I thought of some other poor jerk who might actually buy this from me... and I immediately threw it in the garbage, where I believe it belonged in the first place.
Ashes to ashes... garbage to garbage. And why isn't there a zero-star selection. This would get that rating if there were one.

I just happened to run across this product while browsing on Amazon and was happy to see I am not the only person who gets totally frustrated by the idiotic packaging employed by so many manufacturers these days. I didn't realize there are products designed specifically to chop open these plastic headaches and given the reasonable price and good reviews, I placed my order.
I have used this product 3 times so far, and each time it has worked well. It's not as easy as I thought because some of these plastic nightmare packages must have been intentionally designed to foil any attempt at opening them, but nevertheless none could resist the Zibra.
The Zibra is sturdy, colorful, and does what it was designed to do. I find it is very handy to have around. Even though I don't use it that often, I am happy knowing it is sitting in the drawer just waiting to tear open the next stupidly-packaged item I purchase.
