Tools and Hardware Reviews of Zibra ZPCOPEN-OR Open It Universal Package OpenerCustomer Review: Knife feature is not lefthander friendly Summary: 4 Stars
I agree with many of the other reviewers that this unit is probably the best on the market to easily open those horrendous plastic barriers to accessing one's product. I have cut myself more than once and now don't have to worry anymore.
I would be happy with this unit even if it didn't have the extra helpers, such as the knife and screw driver.
About the knife--it is not lefthander user friendly. Also, at first I thought when I opened the knife it would lock into "open" position. You have to hold it open with your thumb while in the cutting process. This will not work for a lefthander. If it locked into place while being used, the knife feature would work for me. I think the fact that it doesn't lock is a safety problem if your thumb or finger happens to slip.
Customer Review: junk, just use scissors, a box cutter or a pair or wire cutters. Summary: 1 Stars
The only thing this might be good for is clam shell packaging, but nothing we got for Christmas this year was even packaged that way.
The razor blade on it appears to be non replaceable, after using it all morning I can see it won't be lasting much longer. Also awkward to use, a cheap 99 cent boxcutter or a pocket knife would be so much more useful.
The cutters are so big they didn't not work at all for twist or zip tie wires. You can't get them in between the wire and produce to make the cut.
The screwdrivers is very awkward to use since its not centered on the big fat odd shaped handle. You can tell it won't last very long, already starting to strip after putting batteries in just a few toys.
Good idea but badly implemented.
Customer Review: Extremely useful - Worth Every Penny Summary: 5 Stars
How did I live without this tool?
I got one for Christmas and I have found myself reaching for it every time I open a new purchase. It has something for everything you might open - the heavy shears for cutting hard plastic shells, nylon package wrapping bands, etc. And a box cutter for slicing shipping tape.
It's a shame the box cutter doesn't have a replaceable blade.
It also has a tiny Phillips and flat head screwdriver in the other handle (opposite the box cutter blade), but it's so small as to not be very useful.
The bottom line? If you want a tool to make life easy opening all those hard plastic shells - this is it! Clever angle to the shears prevents the plastic "shards" from aiming towards your fingers as you cut.
Customer Review: It cuts through plastic (but how are you going to cut through its packaging?) Summary: 4 Stars
My wife wanted one of those look-easy, near-automatic cutters advertised on television, so I ordered this one since it had the highest consumer ratings. Nothing automatic, magic, even ingenious or clever about it. It's just your basic cutter--as effective as any, as efficient and neat as its user, as safe to operate as the user is sensible. It'll definitely get you through those laminated blister packs where even a heavy-duty scissors would fail. The "universal" part refers to an extra razor-type blade that extends (awkwardly) from the handle (that's where you could self-inflict collateral damage) and a screwdriver device that I've never found a use for. My wife was underwhelmed by such a utilitarian cutter, so at least I got another tool out of the deal.
Customer Review: It just works Summary: 5 Stars
If you're like me, you loathe the plastic blister packs in which so many gadgets are packaged. They're difficult to open, and the packaging often cuts your fingers. This product makes opening these packages quick and easy. The heavy, sharp blades cut through the plastic easily, and they are offset so you don't cut your fingers on the edge of the plastic. The rubberized grip is sturdy, with a tension spring to assist with the cutting action. When it is not in use, the handle locks the blades closed to prevent accidental cuts. It also includes a retractable "box cutter" blade in one handle, and a pop-out screwdriver in the other. I found the additional tools unnecessary, but they don't detract from the primary function of the tool. Highly recommended.
