Tools and Hardware Reviews of D-Con 00027 Ultra Set Covered Snap Mouse Trap

Customer Review: Sometimes, they do build a better mousetrap. Most convenient and cleanest trap I've ever used
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this mouse trap through Amazon because my local hardware and grocery stores stopped carrying it. I love it because it has a very effective and humane spring mechanism, killing most mice nearly instantaneously. Also, since it's a covered trap, it's easy to discretely dispose of the mouse. Best of all it's no-touch disposal. I just lift the cover slightly, pull back the spring and drop the mouse in the woods to be eaten by God knows what.

The form factor makes the trap much easier to place in concealed spaces. The round trap d-Con is apparently replacing this one with is very difficult to find a good placement for and I never caught a mouse after 2 weeks of trying. While d-Con recommends "one trap, one kill", I repeatedly use my traps until I encounter an unfortunately timed "capture", resulting in quite a mess, or the mechanism breaks. I get at least 10 or 12 uses from a single trap. Typically, the trap is so fast I don't even have to replace the peanut butter.

Customer Review: Works well, but doesn't cover up the mouse completely!
Summary: 4 Stars

These traps work very well. They cover up the point of impact, which is nice; however, don't assume, as I did, that the entire dead mouse is hidden from sight - it isn't! Depending on how big the mouse is, the rear end, rear legs and tail are hanging out the back; most unpleasant. Still, it's better than the snap traps, which don't always work; mice may drag those around, suffering, before finally expiring. These are reusable, but I can't bring myself to open a used one. I pick it up with one of those long pole grabbers and drop it in the trash. Another suggestion : I had a contractor come to the house and examine the foundation inside and out. He stopped up holes with CEMENT (don't bother with caulking or steel wool), especially an area he showed me where a pipe was coming from the sump pump. These traps are very easy to bait and set. Worth the peace of mind. I check them every day and so far have caught three mice this season (December 2009).

Customer Review: If I could give it 10 stars, I would!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is the BEST trap, for the money, that I have EVER bought!!! For years, the electronic repellent things (and my cats) seemed to work in my house...not anymore! So, I have tried a variety of poisons (bad idea...one of my dogs got to some...hundreds of dollars later, she's fine, but the mice seemed to completely ignore ALL kinds of poison. Tried other 'no see' traps and in months, seemed to only catch one. The old fashioned wooden ones...the mice ate the bait and the trap was still set... And then this one...every night I catch a mouse (last night was a two-fer). The local home improvement chain can't keep them in stock, they are so popular!!! My vet gave me a hint that they LOVE kibble, so every night a little PB & a kibble goes on and it has never failed me!!! I'm ordering a bunch more to put along other walls and small spaces!!!! LOVE THEM TO (the mouse's) DEATH. (I feel sorry for the critters, but they are destructive and carry disease)

Customer Review: Why so many stars?
Summary: 2 Stars

First of all, I bought two of these and 6 of the 'Better Mouse Trap's, BOTH SUCKED. The better mouse trap caught nothing. But not only did the d-CONs not catch anything, as soon as I first tried to set the trap, the darn set wouldn't stay down. AND YES I DID IT SLOWLY, S-L-O-W-L-Y. I had to use a knife to wiggle with it to set it. For the first week, nothing. Then all of a sudden I heard a snap and I got excited. I dug out the trap from under the kitchen cabinets, and to my disappointment, I found that the snap was not due to a mouse capture, but rather some plastic part of the trap broke, and now, won't set at all, the plastic enclosure id snapped off when I was trying to open it to clean off the peanut butter. I'm asking for an exchange for new ones since the two I got broke, I'm given this crap a second chance. Why? I dont know, I guess its because I really want to catch these damn mice, and no other trap has such high ratings. Fark.

Customer Review: The best trap
Summary: 5 Stars

These traps are the best. I got all different types of traps all over but this is the only one that catches the critters. After using them for years, I found tricks to increase the chance of a catch. First, use them back to back facing different direction against a wall. Mice are near sighted so they run along walls to know where they are going. Second, put the traps where you see droppings. Mice is a creature of habit. They will return to the same routes all the time especially when they know there's food and where there's food, you will see their droppings. Third, make a thin trail of peanut butter leading to the feeding cup from the opening and add a small blob at the opening. Like an appetizer. The mouse will get a taste of the goods and will not be afraid to go into the trap for the feast. I know it sounds crazy but the traps I've laid out with the appetizer always get the mouse even with other traps side by side to it. Good luck.
