Tools and Hardware Reviews of Remanufactured iRobot Roomba Vacuuming Robot, Assorted ColorsCustomer Review: Little powerful machine Summary: 4 Stars
At first, I was very skeptical about roomba, but after seeing it in action, I decided to try it. What a great decision this was.
1) I saved over $130 by buying refurbished, but it is the same as new.
2) I vacuumed my berber rug with my $375 hoover, and after that, the roomba still picked up 2 handfuls more of dirt.
3) Roomba is so quiet, I can read a book or watch TV in the same room with no inturruptions.
4) Every piece of dog (beagle) hair is picked up and put into the easy to use dirt bin.
5) The roomba charges itself after cleaning
6) With the remote, you don't even have to pick up roomba off of the home base
7) Dirt detect finds dirt that I would have never known to have been there
Take this advice...buy one of these. It's the best product I have bought this year. So far, the roomba cheans 10X better than I ever would have, and saves me time!!! The only reason that I rated the roomba 4 of 5 stars is that the battery sometimes might die after an hour of use, and will have to recharge and continue instead of finishing on one charge.
Customer Review: Fun to watch--good experience Summary: 4 Stars
My experience with Amazon and iRobot company has been excellent for this purchase. I bought the reconditioned model through Amazon in February and it had a three-month warranty. I suspected it was defective because would not hold a charge (maximum run time was 10 minutes), though I didn't give up on it quickly. Eventually I went to the iRobot web site for troubleshooting and discovered you could download a manual which I did and in reading it discovered I had a problem that required a call to the customer service.
Before the three months warranty expired, I contacted iRobot (hint--call first thing when their customer service lines open for fastest results) and they recognized the problem immediately, told me the charger was defective and had harmed my Roomba. They had me ship the Roomba and charger back to them which they would replace. I received the brand new Roomba and charger yesterday and it charged up and works perfectly.
So, don't be afraid to buy a reconditioned model at half the price of a new one.
Customer Review: Does A Much Better Job Than We Could! Summary: 5 Stars
Runs exactly as advertised. But do not try to use it in too big a room at one cleaning. It has to go over and over to cover everything as it's not really very smart and the batteries will run down before its cleaned completely and gone back to base. We rotate from room to room each day - 2600 sq. with 2 cats - use the virtual wall, and it does a lot better job of cleaning the carpets and floor than we ever did. Plug the base in and it docks when its sensors says its cleaned, recharges, ready for the next room in a few hours. Our only effort is picking it up, cleaning the lint out and moving it to the next room. Both of us are disabled and using this robot is much easier on us than pushing a vaccum powerful enough to clean as well as Roomba.
The only drawback hasn't happened yet. I think it's not sturdy enough to last through years of daily banging into walls and furniture. The plastic is soft enough not to mar anything but is already starting to show wear. A good reason for a Looong extended warranty!
Customer Review: Battery is a real problem Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased direct from Roomba I-Robot on-line a new Discovery SE 4220 & received it 12-19-05. Following their instructions for a 16 hour initial charge, it remained 'dead'. Following the protocols given on their help line did not correct problem. On the 5th call, after I told them the charger output was 23.5V-DC, and the 14.4V NiMHy.battery read 4.5V, they said the battery would be replaced. It is now 7 weeks later, and their responses to many calls have been 'You will have the new battery next week',then 'they are back-ordered, but you should have the replacement shortly',then,'We can not help you at this time', then 'try again in a few days'. I now have a useless Roomba Discovery 4220,for which I have already paid $300.
Finally received a replacement battery that read 14.2V, installedit, and still no result. Called Ro0mba, who said to try 30 second 'Hard reset' again and charge 3 hours. Still no result.Battery Indicator light still flashing red.(Discharged). Will phone Roomba repair service again in AM.
Customer Review: New Model is 10x better than the original! Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the original Roomba for a few years, and recently bought this newer model. Self-recharging in it's "nest" is great.. no more forgetting to plug it in and finding a dead Roomba when you need it to clean up; when the battery is low, it finds its way home and plugs itself in. Spot Clean is neat .. Roomba will run in a tight circle to clean up something that you spilled in a small area. The dirt "sensor" works well too .. if Roomba is rolling around and notices heavy dirt in one spot, it'll pause there and give that spot a real thrashing. The mechanical design has really improved from the early days too. I looked the unit over very well, and it's definitely better engineered now; for instance, I noticed that the "side cleaning brush" is now straight in shape, and not hooked. The hooked brush sometimes would get tangled in carpet tassles. Lastly, I have to mention the vastly improved battery life. I'm very pleased to have upgraded to the new unit. It's far superior to it's brother, Original Roomba.
