Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot 530 Roomba Vacuuming Robot, White

Customer Review: Brilliant!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was pretty dubious about this product, but picked one up for my disabled in-laws as a gift anyway. Wow! We were all really impressed with it -- it's downright amazing how much dirt it got out of carpets that had recently been shampooed. DH and I picked up a couple more Roombas for home and office right away.

The funniest thing is that we're all absolutely dotty about it. When it's charging it looks like its little heart is beating and it makes cute little cheery noises when you turn it on and happy sighs when it gets to its docking station. It really is like having a little dog, only without all the yapping and ankle-biting and hair. And my floors have never looked better. The kids tend to track in a ton of dust and debris, which all shows up excellently well on wood floors. Short of vacuuming every flipping day (who has time for THAT?) I used to resign myself to living in a bit of a mess; now I can turn Roomba loose every day and all is well.

The only negative is that it won't do the stairs, so I still have to haul out the vacuum cleaner (ugh) occasionally, although not nearly as often as before Roomba was tackling the hallway on a daily basis. It also tended to get hung up on my in-laws' sliding glass door tracks, which are on a slight drop-off. It does extremely well, however, with our various rugs and even spat out the stupid tassles on the Christmas tree skirt with aplomb. One caveat -- clean the filter out every time you empty the dust bowl. I don't know what happens if you don't, but there sure is a lot of stuff in there.

We haven't had Roomba for all that long, so we will see how it does over the long haul. I am slightly concerned about other reviewers' comments about the side brush, but will probably just go ahead and order a couple of spares. Whatever they cost, this little robot is such a delight and a time-saver that it's worth it.

Customer Review: WOW!! I've needed this for a long time!!
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, you've GOT to get one of these things!!

I'll keep it simple. Yesterday I received it in the mail. I've got hard wood floors and two short haired dogs that shed like a balding man wearing a cheap wig! I pulled everything out, plugged it in, let it charge (meanwhile reading the instructions) and later on {POOF} she's off! She goes round and round. The volume level is pretty smooth and quiet (50 percent queiter that ANY vacuum), but enough to turn the TV up but a few 5 bars over standard volume levels. The booger is picking things up as she goes!! WOOHOO! I hadn't vacuumed the floor in 4 days JUST so I could see this thing at it's finest! I live on a dirt road so that is considered extreme for our lil' igloo. It cleaned my floor folks!! Yeah, beat that?!

It even docked itself first try and started to re-charge. And it even made a cute little noise (kind of like the 'Charge' anthem at a baseball game). I picked it up, pushed a button, pulled the tray out and dumped it. Clean! I simultaneously pushed two small buttons, pulled the brush out and cleaned it off in just a few seconds! WOW!!! I put it back in, put her back in her dock ... DONE!! It took more time to type this review up than to clean it.

WHAT?! I can't believe this! I inspected the house for any loose debris ... PERFECT rating today guys. I'll have to rate this thing later on as the reliability and such plays a factor, by all means, but the first initial test drive was flawless. Rugs, pet beds, pet bowls, chords, under the furniture and all!! Never touched it once , man! It came with little rubber arms for the corners and I can't see them breaking as it's 100% flexible too. No plastic arms like everyone was complaining about! NICE! I have to admit I was worried about that one. No prob!

Just get one!! For this price it's worth the results even if I have to replace it once a year!!

Customer Review: Great idea, still needs some work.
Summary: 3 Stars

I hate vacuuming so I love the idea of a Roomba. I had an older model (the green one, not sure what the model number was) and it worked OK except for the fact that it destroyed the fringe on most of my carpets, kept getting stuck on the heating registers and I had to replace the battery three times in less than two years. I also had to replace the spinning brush twice because when it got hung up in the carpet fringe it would inevitably tear one of the brushes off. I upgraded to this model about 4 or 5 months ago and thankfully, it never gets hung up on my carpet fringe and the battery life seems much better. However, I seem to have a gift for finding the dud machines because in my model the brushes don't fit together that well. On one side the larger brush is so ill-fitting that it's rubbed part of the housing around it down. The downside to this is that it's hard to reassemble the brush cage thing when I take it apart for cleaning and it takes nothing to make the brushes not work properly which leads to constant error messages saying, "Clean Roomba's brushes." The brushes are usually clean since I'm pretty vigilant about keeping the brushes and filters clean. The brush housing starts clicking loudly because the brushes aren't fitting correctly and I have to keep taking them apart and putting them back together to get the Roomba to work, only to get the same error messages less than a minute later. Having to constantly do this defeats the point of having the Roomba in the first place. Once in a while I get lucky and get everything in perfectly and the Roomba actually works like it should. At some point I might replace the brushes to see if that helps. When the Roomba does work, it's great. When it doesn't it's extremely frustrating. When a vacuum costs over $200 I expect it to work properly for more than a couple of weeks.

Customer Review: If it doesn't break down in 2 weeks it's a GREAT product

well, I bought this sucker a couple of weeks ago from HSN (249.00) with free shipping. GREAT DEAL, RIGHT!?!?! WRONG!

I loved this thing. We even named it! It cleaned the kitty litter specks, hairs, (not great on carpets as it lifts and cuts the top layer of the carpet fibers, but it deep cleans the rugs where your vacuum just doesn't).

So, I'm having a love affair with my roomba when all of a sudden it turns off and tells me to remove the brushes and clean them. Ok, I did! I put them back properly and send it on its way to finish cleaning. About 1 minute later I hear that lady telling me to remove and clean the brushes yet again. So I do and this time more thoroughly.

Guess what!? The brushes are spotless and the lady is still telling me to clean them. So, it appears something is wrong with the brushes fitting properly that they can't move right. Great!

So now I have this thing that doesn't work. I have to wait for UPS to come pick it up, they are out of stock, and quite frankly I'm nervous about getting another one. I don't want to keep going through this game of sending it back and getting a new one, sending it back and getting a new one OVER AND OVER. I've played that game with other products and it isn't fun.

If it continued to work I would have given it 5+++ stars for sure, but I just think it's too tempermental. I know a few people that I've spoken with since I got this that already had one (never knew it) and it sits in their closet because it broke within 5 months or so.

Should you get it? If you have money to blow then sure....it's great for the few weeks/months it will work.

I'm sad because I'm disabled and it really helped me when I was sick and needed to get things cleaned up for an open house or showing.

Customer Review: How this thing gets less then 4 Stars is beyond me...
Summary: 5 Stars

Seriously. I got this for the wife for Xmas. This is the greatest friggen thing I have purchased this year. And I have bought a butt load of stuff.

Ok, if you are a pig, living in a crap-hole, yeah, you may have broken it after 4 days, or have unreal expectations for it.

I on the other hand, have a clean house, have the children clean up after themselves, and am "normal" with "normal" expectations from a consumer product.

This thing cleans when you don't want to. Christmas Night, for example, we let it loose in the tree room after picking up the boxes and paper. This thing picked up those annoying toy twist ties, the cardboard pieces from the boxes, and paper we missed like they were NOTHING.

After using the Roomba, the room was spotless. Job done.

After Christmas dinner, with 5 children in the house, we moved the chairs out of the way, and Virtual Walled the little puppy in the kitchen area where it then picked up EVERY CRUMB, or piece of ham, salad, whatever that was in there. Even a few toothpicks.

I have run this thing no less then 15 times since Christmas day, and as I stated, I am a CLEAN person, and I am amazed that it is STILL picking up dust. I am actually determined to run this thing until there is no dust.

It's running right now actually, as I type this. It goes for 2 hours, EASY, on a charge. That is good enough for 3 rooms, usually done in this way, my Kitchen, living room (which is a great room), and Foyer. Then the 3 Bedrooms. Sunroom by itself cus it is a lower level, and it doesn't do stairs.

If you got a bad one, give it another chance, this really is a great product. I didn't believe how well it would work until I got one. My house has been dog hairless since Christmas!
