Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot Advanced Power System Ni-MH Battery, 3000 mAh, 17373

Customer Review: Very pleased
Summary: 4 Stars

I may have forgotten how much juice I got out of the original battery when I first got my refurbished Roomba, but I don't think it was as much as I get out of this new battery.

My original Roomba battery lost all ability to charge after just seven months, which is party my fault. I have cats and used the scheduler nearly every day to clean up after them. I emptied the dust (hair) bin regularly, but didn't keep up with cleaning the brushes and wheels like I should have. I also didn't learn about the battery reset function (remove battery, hold power button for a while, charge fully, drain fully) until it was too late.

With this new battery, I'm going to make sure to cycle the battery every few months and blow out the entire Roomba with my air compressor monthly.

Great price from Amazon, better than my original, I give it four stars only because I can't predict the longevity. So far it's been two months and running strong!

Customer Review: Buyer Beward
Summary: 1 Stars

Be wary when buying anything from Amazon.com I would suggest, and be sure to read the fine print. Ultimately, this item claims to be sold by Amazon.com. However, if you have a defect, you are instructed by Amazon to direct your returns to the seller/manufacturer. I spent an hour trying to find a way to break through this loophole, even looked for a way to contact Amazon directly; there isn't one. When you phone iRobot (the party listed as the manufacturer of the battery/Roomba) you are informed by their customer service department that they are not responsible for returns, as the item you bought from Amazon was not actually SOLD to Amazon by them. In fact, they let their products be sold to 3rd party sellers, who THEN sell them to Amazon, who then sell them to you. Nice.
So, if this item is defective, who takes the responsibility for it? Apparently, you the consumer, since you won't be getting a refund from either the seller OR the manufacturer.

Customer Review: Two batteries DOA
Summary: 3 Stars

I ordered one of these to replace the bad battery in a Roomba Discovery that my mom gave me. Roomba would indicate charged, but as soon as I hit the power button, it would sing its sad song and flash the power light red. So, I exchanged the battery (Amazon has a good return policy) and two days later got the new one. The second battery didn't work either, so I started to think that maybe my Roomba itself was bad. I tried the battery in another Roomba Discovery, and it still did not work. I pulled out my trusty voltmeter and found that the battery was reading 1.5 volts...it should be 14.4V!
Based on other reviews, I'm sure this product works like a champ, but I am giving it only three stars because somehow I managed to get TWO bad batteries in a row, which makes me question their quality control.
Now I am debating whether to try for a third battery or just give up. Maybe I am destined to vacuum manually for the rest of my life!

Customer Review: roomba working again
Summary: 4 Stars

I would give the battery and this company a 5 star review but the battery has only been in Roomba for about 3 weeks. Our brand new Roomba stopped working after about 91 days of use - one day after the warranty expired. Roomba's customer service would not honor a warranty that expired so soon after purchase nor would they offer us a reduced price on a battery - thus causing me to rethink plans of purchasing a scrooba. We had purchased a refurbished roomba thinking it had been inspected and had no problems. We tried all the published tricks you will see on the Amazon review sites to no avail. Finally we decided to purchase a new battery. This battery is actually a Roomba battery as opposed to a generic that some sites advertise (trickily). So far so good. The price was considerably less than the Roomba website. But if this battery fails in 91 days then I will probably put roomba away and stick to my Hoover.

Customer Review: Lousy batteries, lousy service
Summary: 1 Stars

The original battery in the Roomba died less than 6 months after I bought it, so I bought a new battery at Fry's. This new battery died less than a year into its life, so I contacted Irobot to have it fixed under warranty. The service representative told me that accessories not purchased at the Irobot store or Amazon ARE NOT COVERED by the Irobot warranty. Of course, this is not stated anywhere in the packaging material or in the Irobot website. Basically, Irobot allows distributors to sell their products and then does not stand behind them.

The roomba is a great product (i've owned 4), but the fact that new batteries have to be purchased regularly (less than one year) means that the operational cost is very high. The company also engages in disinformation regarding warranties.

If you are going to buy the battery make sure you buy it from Amazon or Irobot in order to have a warranty.
