Tools and Hardware Reviews of iRobot Advanced Power System Ni-MH Battery, 3000 mAh, 17373Customer Review: Bad battery Summary: 3 Stars
We got Roomba as a gift 1 1/2 year ago. We used it occasionally, and it worked fine, so we were very surprised when the battery died, shortly after 1 year. Unfortunately, the warranty had expired by then. The company customer service representative told us that we were not using battery properly. WOW! I assume that our relatives - 2 families - also didn't know how to use the battery, since they had exactly the same problem, even before 1 year. It looks like the company found an easy way of making an additional profit. I don't believe they cannot fix the problem - but obviously, it would take more efforts then just to trick customers into paying steep price for the batteries ($60-$70 apiece) all the time.
Customer Review: Quite good, if a little too expensive Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this seemingly too expensive battery to replace my original Roomba battery after it started to die on me after about one-and-a-quarter years of work. I should mention that it came in a parcel with just a plastic "baggie" around it and no manual or manufacturer's packaging (and for that it gets one star off). Another star off SHOULD be the price. (I thought about replacing only the rechargeable part of the battery inside - which would be cheaper in some case - but decided against it as I though if my saudering powers were a little off, I'd have to buy this battery anyway.) Still it seems to do the job well. Right now it's only a couple of jobs in, so no long-term rating yet.
Customer Review: Seems like bait & switch to me Summary: 3 Stars
This battery was described as being iRobot (not a generic compatible replacement) and that was also supported but the photographs of an original iRobot product. When my battery arrived it was NOT the iRobot product but a generic clone. I contacted the co and they countered with "yes, but that is what every one is doing". That response does not earn any respect from me. I passed over other generic clones for less money and this company got an order from me that I would not have placed. They offered me a 6 month warranty which I consider worthless. My original iRobot battery lasted for years not months. I'll see how it goes, but I suggest that you are cafeful with your ordering.
Customer Review: Not for the average person Summary: 1 Stars
I bought the replacement batteries (without the housing) here is what happened:
1. The replacement battery pack info was misleading - it was extremely hard to open open the iRobot battery - and even then, the edges were so rough that the cover would not be tight.
2. The replacement battery group has to be soldered in - the margin for error is very small - if not done very precisely, the batteries will not fit in the slot.
This may be o.k. if you are an electrician - certainly not for the average person. In sum, it was a total waste of money and I wound up having to buy an iRobot 4905 replacement unit ( $ 20 more) but at least it works.
Customer Review: Returned! it wouldn't charge Summary: 1 Stars
The re-chargeable iRobot battery would not re-charge- after leaving on the charger more than 24hours! I have returned it. I would like to know if this was a reconditioned battery or a new one! Very frustrated as I had waited a long time without my iRobot working since the original battery it came with stopped re-charging after a year of use - and I really hated to pay $50 for a new battery. I read that you should not leave the battery in the charger plugged in. I'm not sure if that is the reason the original battery quit working. Now, I'm really frustrated that I still can't use the iRobot. I guess I'll order another one and try again when I get my credit from Amazon.
