Or better yet, put the trash can in the trash.
This is the most worthless product ever. They have these where I work and I have been dealing with them for over a year now.
The lid rarely opens when you need it to. You usually have to pry the lid open manually. Of course there is no handle to facilitate this, since it was designed to open automatically. Which means you just have to stick your fingers into the grimy ring around the lid and pull it open. When the lid does open as designed, it will often just open halfway so you still have to reach your hand on there and open it all the way.
My other issue with this product is purely philosophical: why automate something so trivial? Many trash cans have a foot lever, so you step on that and the lid opens. Your hands stay clean, no batteries required, and it always works because of its inherent simplicity. Why take something simple that works well, over-engineer it, overcomplicate it, and all for what? A less reliable product.
This product is utter crap. Save your money.
Description of iTouchless 13 Gallon Semi-Round Extra-Wide Opening Touchless Trash Can HX
This HX Model 13 Gallon Touchless Trashcan is a semi-round sensor operated trash can with extra wide (12.5 inches) opening for larger debris. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically open. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inches range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid it closes automatically. At the top front of the lid there are open and close buttons for manual operation, and there is a on/off power switch at the back of the trash can. This HX Model is redesigned with stronger lid hinge mechanism, air-escape holes for effortless trash bag removal, and carrying handle for easy mobility. Fits any regular 13 or 18 gallon trash bag.
