Tools and Hardware Reviews of Time Mist Sensor Flush Automatic Sensor Tank Toilet Flushing SystemCustomer Review: Works but wonky Summary: 3 Stars
If you, like me, have trained your cats to use the toilet - and now that I think about it, why else are you looking up this item, you sicko - there's one last thing to solve before you can take a sitter-less weekend vacation: flushing. If only cats could learn to flush the handle! Surely, there's a way to train them, but I don't have the time (Didn't you have the time to train them in the first place???). Where was I? Oh yes. OK, so this thing indeed senses the presence of the cat and flushes when they step out of view. One nice thing about the motor is that it pulls the handle very slowly - essentially the same thing as a human holding down the handle, which is nice for people with old plumbing. Not so nice for people who pay for water, I guess. I don't have that issue. The problem is that it tends to go off when our cats are still on the toilet, which frequently spooks them. In fact the frequency of accidents has skyrocketed. We've basically had to retrain them to use the toilet - with the sound of the flusher and sudden shock of clean water mid-visit. Let's just say the treats are camped in the bathroom. A small price to pay. I actually don't think the sensitivity issue people have complained about is as much of a problem, or at least it's less the fault of the device itself. From what I can tell, the sensitivity mostly adjusts the distance of the infrared beam, not the width. Or if it does adjust the width, it definitely prioritizes the distance. Meaning, if you crank up the sensitivity all the way it's going to sense the adjacent wall and never flush (because it thinks something is still on the toilet, hilariously). So we've settled on some kind of middle-ground where the sensor is projected enough to sense the cats, but frequently it looses track of them and flushes prematurely. It would be great if you could set a timer, say for 30 seconds maybe. To be fair, our cats spend of lot of time investigating the fresh water (cuz, you know, it's such a new thing after all of these years), so they kind of duck out of view of the sensor. In any case, if you're like me (and again, why are you reading this review if you're not) you'll settle for the few downsides because the shear convenience of never coming home to a dirty toilet (not to mention this thing is pretty cheap).
