Customer Review: Didn't live up to expectations

I bought this trash can about a year ago. From the beginning the sensor did not work consistently. I was constantly waving my hand to try to get it to open - not easy when you have trash in your hand. But the worst part is the shape of the can. I will never purchase another round trash can for the kitchen again. I throw very few "round" things away. Mostly I have cereal boxes (rectangle), trash can bag boxes (rectangle) milk cartons or other non-round things. When I would take the bag out of the container, I had to stick my hand into the can to maneuver the items that were sticking out of the side of the bag so I could remove the trash bag. I ended up with broken trash bags and a messy trash can.
This seemed like such a good idea when I first purchased it - modern looking stainless steel, automatic open so my hands would be free and automatic closure. I kept trying to use the can for a couple of months and finally could not deal with the random opening and closing and the mess. I went back to my old plastic non-round can. When the stainless steel can no longer opened automatically at all, I took it to the curb for the trash pickup - and as I was leaving it, the top opened and closed a few times. I dragged it back into the house - and out to my storage shed. It's getting one last chance as a shed trash can!

This Touchless Trashcan NX model specially designed for 13 gallon tall kitchen size trash bags. This 2nd generation automatic trash can has improved sensor sensitivity to prevent accidental openings, and superior lid opening mechanism for longer lasting, more durable operations. As your hand or debris enter the zone 6 inches from the infrared sensor on top of the trash can, the lid will automatically open. The lid will remain open if debris or hand is within the 6 inch range of the infrared sensor. 3 seconds after your hand moves away from the lid it closes automatically. At the top front of the lid there are open and close buttons for manual operation, and there is a on/off power switch at the back of the trash can.Wastebaskets
