Tools and Hardware Reviews of iTouchless 42 Liter Automatic Stainless Steel Touchless Trash Can NXCustomer Review: Lid Breaks after 6 Months. Not very good warranty. Summary: 1 Stars
I have had my iTouchless Trash Can for 6 months and the lid just stopped working. I contacted iTouchless via their website and reported the problem. After a couple of days they got me in touch with the warranty department. They require that you pay the shipping BOTH WAYS. You pay to ship and must include a check for $9.95 for return shipping. Their system is obviously not very efficient because I also had to fill out a Word Document form with all the same information I sent them on the Website and they already had in email. So it will cost me over $20 to get the lid repaired for a $57 trash can that is covered under warranty plus I have to go without a lid on my trash can for who knows how long? What should they do ? They should ship you a new lid right away and have you return the defective lid in the same box (I also have to find something to put this in to ship it and pack it). They should pay the shipping or make a product that doesn't break so easily (very normal use). I would be willing to give my credit card until they validate that my lid is defective. Also it is very hard to get the trash bag out of the can when it is full because the cylinder is tall and narrow so it's not a great product even when it is working. I do not recommend this product to anyone or anything from this company.
Customer Review: Good, but not Great Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this after using my mother's touchless, infrared trash can. First let me tell you about the great things about this product. 1. When it closes it even keeps diaper smells from getting out. 2. It's easy to clean on the outside and inside. 3. It has a shot off switch in the back. Now the negatives: 1. I have to buy trash bags that are larger than 13 gallons, otherwise they fall right in. There is this silly, quite ridiculus little spring type, wire ring that is "supposed" to keep the bag in place. Well it's fine as long as you don't put anything heavy in or drop anything in for that matter. I've had to put the bag on the outside with the lid on it to keep the bag in place; it's ugly but it works better. 2. The batteries where down really quickly, I had two weeks and already had to replace the batteries. 3. Which goes along with the benefits as well, when you have something smelly in the trash and it opens, (and it could be because it's sensitive and you walked by it) it opens and the smell is awful! It keeps the smell in, but even walking by it seems to set it off, and out comes that smell.
Overall it's a good product, but if given the option I wouldn't buy it if I knew what I know now. I'd opt for a different one with same infrared, touchless feature.
Customer Review: ease of use Summary: 3 Stars
Ok, so it works as people have described it. Here are 2 things to consider from an ease of use perspective.
1. most people use 13 gallon bags, this can is 12 gallon. however, that doesn't mean that a normal trash bag doesn't fit in it, it fits well enough, as a matter of fact, the can is longer than the length of standard bags. this is a problem because the bag sags down when trash is put into it.
2. there is a metal ring that you are supposed to use when fitting the trash bag 'inside' the can, i guess the idea is that the trash bag doesn't show from the outside. using this metal ring is a pain, if takes a lot of fiddling to put a trash bag into the can and more fiddling to take it out. i consider this a serious drawback. now, normally, i would just put the trash bag like in ordinary cans, the problem is that the can is not that wide, so you can't really fit it tight. moreover, as described in (1), the bag will sag under weight and fall into the can.
3. forget about putting in a crumplied pizza box into it, it has a small opening, a 1 gallon milk bottle is the most it'll take.
Customer Review: So far so good. *UPDATED* Summary: 4 Stars
So far, this unit performs as expected. Its a little tall for 13 gal bags, but I just put some of the styrofoam packing material in the bottom and it works fine.
I guess they didn't listen to complaints about the sticker on the front, because it is still impossible to remove.
The sensor on this one is supposed to be redesigned and better, but I have nothing to compare it to.
I'll be shocked if the lid mechanism lasts more than 6 months.
I'll refresh this review in 6 mos if I can remember!
*UPDATED July 2009*
The lid on this cracked and stopped working about a year in - but to be fair, I dropped the top heavy lid unit on the floor.
THe only other real complaint I have is that there are alot of catch points in the can that can make it tough to remove the bag. Depending on whats in it, you have to take it slow and wiggle it out to avoid ripping the bag.
I'll be replacing this one with a foot pedal can.
Customer Review: Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
After I had a broken plastic trash bin where it took me both hands to open it I was so fed up, decided to splurge. I looked at traditional stainless steel trash cans and they all were nearly as, or even more expensive. This has been working great now for a while. The batteries have lasted at least 4-5 months and our kids love to put their trash away. You can open it by pushing a button and need to push another button to close it, or just wait till it opens and closes by itself. I find it very easy to clean, too. If you put a lot of big bottles or other heavy stuff in it, it sometimes takes some "wiggeling" to get the full bag out cause stuff can get stuck at the top edge, but if you don't stuff it overly full it is never a problem. What I also like a lot is the design and the ring you place over the edges of the bag so the bag won't show from the outside. I love it!!!
