Customer Review: great trashcan, flawed design

Ok, so I've read everyone's review and will say, up front, that everyone is right about the inside of the can ripping/shredding garbage bags with its flawed design. Whoever designed the inside of the can needs to be fired. There's triangular "teeth" that serve no discernable function other than to make life miserable when it comes time to empty the trash. My solution? I just used thick duct tape around the inside of the rim to cover up the "teeth" and now everything's fine. No problems taking out the bag. As for the claims about the sticker on the can and having trouble getting it off, I ordered mine through Amazon and it did not come with ANY stickers on it. Maybe someone from the company read the reviews here on Amazon? : ) Lastly, the complaints about how "loud" it is and how slow the automatic opener is, I don't think the opening/closing noise is any worse than others that I've had, and the speed of the opening/closing door was fine once I put in brand new Duracells. I, for one, am very happy with this trash can. It holds A LOT of garbage because it's about 6 inches taller than the traditional can. Would I buy it again? Exactly 1 month after the 1 year warranty was up, the lid broke. It just stopped moving, as if it came out of the gears. Then shortly after it just quit even trying (even with fresh batteries)--no noise nothing. Something inside just malfunctioned I guess. Paid good money for this but it is NOT WORTH IT. Save your money and look elsewhere.
Besides the lid dying, the design of the interior is horrible, as others have mentioned. When you go to remove the bag full of garbage, sharp tabs on the inside top (that are like a shelf for the lid) cut vertically into the bag in 1-4 places! Trash everywhere! Just dumb--didnt they test this thing before manufacturing it?
Looks nice and I really needed the garage door type lid as it sits under an overhang from the counter (so flip up lids dont work--and we wanted a lid). Sadly this iTouchless can has shattered my dreams.
Also, a somewhat more minor gripe: the lid is too slow to open--put your hand there to throw away some garbage and you have to unnaturally pause for 1 second.
DO NOT BUY!!

Well, first they didn't include the inner ring for the trash bag, no biggie, I called and 3 weeks later they sent one......
Now, it has just plain stopped working. Called, again, and was told to clean the sensor and wait 6 hours then turn it back on...... OK, 6 hours later - nothing. So I get to call again and then they will give me a warranty ticket. Quite frankly I am not impressed with this trash can. I guess I will let them send me a new one and hope it was just a fluke.
UPDATE: after waiting the 6 hours to let it "reset" it still didn't work. When I called back they told me they would not take it back OR replace it. I didn't buy it directly from them so "sucks to be you" basically. So the manufacturer doesn't stand by this thing either NICE!
I would now give this whole situation a -* if I could.
Customer Review: Trash Bags Get Torn Every Time...

This is an awesome idea. My kids love to put their trash away. Finally!
However, the problem we have had is that the black rim that the self opening top fits down on top of has teeth! 28 of them! These are 45 degree hard plastic triangles that help to secure the black rim (that holds the top) to the stainless steel. There is at least a 1/4 inch gap between the triangle and the stainless, causing it to grab the trash bags as you are pulling them out. This grabbing causes huge holes in the trash bags and leaking trash every where. We have even tried making sure that the trash can is not full each time we take out the trash... and still we have huge holes and rips in the bags. We have even tried the heavy duty lawn and leaf bags and those come out with the same huge rips. Very Frustrating and not what we expected in an $80 trash can.

I searched to find this product. I have a previously purchased one,from Tuesday Morning. After a party, helpful guests removed the bag of trash, ignorant of the fact that there was a very significant hoop inside, which allows the top edges of the bag to be folded in over the hoop so the outside appearance is attractive; no garbage bag edges hanging out as in other containers.
I was so disturbed by this loss, that now it is essential to have the bag hanging out from under the top door mechanism, that I decided to find a new one. Thanks to GOOGLE, I located it.
I have seen others where the entire top lifts up or out, but the cover on the iTouchless has a se1uential roll top, like that of an old roll top desk, which makes the opening totally free and out of the way to all deposit of trash. I LOVE IT! Patrick Matthews, Pinecrest, Florida
