Tools and Hardware Reviews of iTouchless Fully Automatic Stainless Steel Touchless Trashcan TX, 1 Gallon (6 Liter)Customer Review: Great size, great idea, but doesn't last Summary: 1 Stars
I bought this on Amazon a while ago, and i thought it was great for the size to put on my kitchen countertop for a small pail for things like orange peels, egg shells, (compost) etc. But the first one didn't even last a month before the sensor for the motion to open and close the lid would stop working or malfunction. I had symptoms where i would wave my hand over the sensor and it wouldnt open. Then other times while no ones in the kitchen, it would open by itself and then close, and sometimes open and stay open.
Amazon was kind enough to put a claim in for a replacement at no charge. I received the replacement without even having to send the old one back, due to sanitary reasons, but this one barely lasted 2 weeks. Same symptons, eventually it stopped working. After that I didn't even bother contacting Amazon for another replacement. I sent Amazon feedback saying how poor this product is and that they should not be selling it on their website.
P.S. The stainless steel isn't good quality as it leaves watermarks, etc, i have a simplehuman large garbage can with non finger print and thats 10 times better quality for stainless. This garbage can, however, stains with waterstains, etc and requires constant wiping.
Do not recommend.
Customer Review: Solves a messy problem Summary: 5 Stars
Since we got our two cats (one in 2006 and one in 2007) we've been having all sorts of litter box problems and trying all sorts of solutions. We finally stumbled across a giant pan (relatively cheap) here on Amazon - which I have also seen locally at Petsmart - the Kitty's Crumble litter, and the iTouchless 1-gallon trash can. The cats have finally started using the box 100% of the time (as opposed to hanging certain parts over the edge while going). They seem to like the texture of Kitty's Crumble. It tracks less than clumping litters and what does track sweeps up easily with a mini dustpan and brush. Then we put a grocery bag in the iTouchless can (inside the bucket). Solids get scooped into the grocery bag every day, and at the end of the week, the solids bag is taken to the garbage bin (the one the trashmen empty) and the used Crumble goes into the bucket. Then the used Crumble goes out into the garden. Less waste, more clean, happy cats, no mess!
Customer Review: Inner Plastic Bucket Inconvenient to Remove Summary: 3 Stars
As the product description indicates, the inner plastic bucket is removable.
But what the description does not tell you is that the entire top assembly has to be removed before you can lift out the inner plastic bucket. It takes at least two hands (and in my case, two feet as well) to separate the top assembly from the bottom. That makes it rather inconvenient to remove the bucket.
Other than that, it is fine. The opening / closing mechanism works well.
I bought this intending to use it to store kitchen scraps which would then be transferred to the compost pile by lifting out the inner bucket. But since the inner bucket cannot be lifted out by just opening the top, it is more of a pain to use than my old compost pail.
Customer Review: Compost Bin Summary: 5 Stars
I had been looking for a compost pail to replace the antique one I had in the sink for a very long time. I did not like any of the new versions with charcoal features or lids that did not shut tight so odors escaped. I have the itouchless trash can in my kithen and this led me to look in a new direction for a compost bin. I found this 1 gallon bin and it is perfect. I keep it under the sink (so now I have a full sink back - bonus). This pail has a plastic container with a handle that sits inside the stainless bin. The lid stays open just long enough to put the scraps in and once the lid shuts no odors escape. I love it and think it should be marketed as an under the sink compost bin.
Customer Review: Does not have the itouchless ring/bag holder Summary: 4 Stars
This product works much like the other iTouchless systems. Keeps everything sanitary and for this size, works especially great in the bathroom where it is for me. One disappointment was the lack of the invaluable ring which holds the bags in place in the larger iTouchless garbage cans. This keeps the bag from slipping off and takes away the cumbersome task of having to keep the bag secured (hopefully!) by hoping there's just enough space between the outer can and the inner container to hold it in place. The ring was a simple yet effective solution which this model does not have.
