Tools and Hardware Reviews of simplehuman KT1025 System Stainless-Steel Dish RackCustomer Review: High quality dishrack with good features Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this for my apartment when I was rooming with others in the military since I was brought up to hand wash my dishes and because there weren't enough dishes to warrant use of the dishwasher (it didn't clean fast/well anyways). I was about to buy a cheap Sterlite one from Wal-mart, but something told me to research for a quality one and I ended up picking this one. I don't regret my decision at all--now that I think back on it, I'm happier that I made a smart decision to get this.
I like the modular features of this. The configuration in the picture will leave the counter under the dishrack a mess. It's not good enough to go without a towel underneath. Since cleaning the brown mess underneath, I reconfigured it to have the utensil holder on the inside to drip on the pan and the cup holders to hang over the sink. I don't use the cup holders for tall glasses; I don't use them for cups at all--I stick my sponges and scrubbers on them. The feet that fold out to tilt it and let the water drain out is a good idea, but they're too far out in the corners for it to sit level on the counter and not have the metal gutter spout thingee stream it onto the rim of the sink. I have the rack on the rim of the counter and bunched up the towel on the other end to make it a bit higher on that end so the water actually drains into the sink and down the drain.
Now recently, I moved back home and offered it to my mom. At first, she was turned off by its shininess, saying that she didn't need something that fancy. I put it back into a box and said, "Oh well, it's a shame it's going to collect dust for a while. Maybe I'll sell it on craigslist for $20." It was then she said, "Wait, I'll buy it." I couldn't hold back my grin and I showed her how I had previously configured it (I didn't take any money). In contrast, her old rack was significantly smaller (for a much bigger household of 6 without a dishwasher), had a drip pan that didn't drain water, and was also slightly bent out of shape. I can't imagine the stiff/sturdy materials of this getting out of shape and it cleaned up pretty well after a couple years of use.
So not only does the dish rack outperform others, it gave me a happier sense of mind about the decision, and it provided an unexpected humorous memory.
