Customer Review: Decent, could be better!

I bought this garbage can because I was tired of my old one being unable to keep everything covered for the night when the bag is only half full and not ready to be discarded. In other words, I was looking for something that would keep the garbage and the smell contained until the bag was full enough to throw out. I have to admit that this one did accomplish one of those goals: it is certainly spacious and keeps everything in the bag. However, it DOES NOT SEAL HERMETICALLY! Meaning it doesn't seal tight enough to keep smells in and very small flies out! That was a disappointment. Still, I can't complain too much because the manufacturer does not make the claim that it seals hermetically. Also, the step-on opening mechanism work quite well. So although I'm not pleased with the lack of airtightness, it functions as described so I somewhat approve, by giving it 3 stars.Customer Review: Ideal Kitchen Trash Receptacle

The only thing about this container that may give you fits (although minimal) is trying to attach the lid to the container once it arrives. It's just one of those fiddly, irritating tasks that can have you cursing like a sailor in a matter of seconds. But once you calm yourself and get it attached, you'll find yourself wondering why you never made this purchase before that day. It is easy to use, making for a hands-free execution with the step-on lid opener. And it doesn't create annoyance by slamming shut, thanks to the innovative slow-closure mechanism. It looks sharp and sits neatly in a corner of the room. Odors are not an issue with the overlapping lid. And because of the lip at the top of the receptacle, the bag stays neatly in place. My wife and I saw this at Crates & Barrel but we already have one of those all-aluminum rube like trash can we got as a gift. But I've always hated the fact the it's hard to remove the bag from the can and the circular shape just don't hold that much trash. So we decided to return the other one and get this.
Well, we came back the next day it was all sold out, they called other C&B and nobody has them in stock all over SoCal so we bought it via Amazon.
Overall, it's a pretty simple and nice trash can, the only thing is that when you step on it the lid may hit whatever it's behind it so be sure to give it some space if you put it against the wall. Otherwise a slick and smooth trash can! Let's see how long it lasts.

My only concern going into this purchase was based on other reviews. One said the trash can stuck out (depth) a littler further than other trash cans and another review commented on the size of the trash can being smaller than the traditional 13 gallon size. I have had no problems or complaints with the can so far. It does not stick out any further than my last one. The locking mechanism is great and I love the idea of the slow closing lid. As for the size of the can, there is actually less wasted space in the bag when it's full compared our last trash can that was a 13 gallon. I know that sounds weird, but somehow it works for us! We've had this for over a year now and have totally loved it. There are several things that make it wonderful: nothing inside to catch/rip the trash bag when pulling it out, the lid really makes the can because it has the ability to open with just a step (great when your hands are full or real dirty), it locks to keep our little ones out of it, it is connected (no separate messy lid to place somewhere when emptying), it stays open by itself and closes softly/quietly.
We've never had smells seaping out like someone else wrote about it, but we usually empty our trash every few days, so it has never been an issue. We are very, very glad we bought it.
