I bought this can to replace one of those high tech garbage eaters... you know, the one that has an IR 'eye' on the front of it to open automatically. As a lover of all things tech I can tell you that there are simply places it does not belong. This can is very simple yet quite sturdy. All that was required to put together was to snap on the lid and take off a couple of stickers. It is nice and slim and hugs the side of the island, staying well out of the traffic path. The pedal activated opening mechanism is smooth and feels very stable. The locking mechanism is a nice touch if you have little ones or hungry animals, though we do not need it. The only thing I would do to improve it would be to include hooks or a band at the top to keep the bag up and open. The opening is quite large and does stretch an average kitchen bag open but throw anything weighty in there and it could still slip.Customer Review: Awesome trash can

I've always had a round stainless steel trash can but after the foot lever broke (over 2 years ago) and tired of opening the trash with my hand, we decided to go out and buy yet another round stainless steel trash can. Within a day, we noticed how weak the foot pedal was AGAIN. Plus my husband was tired of hauling the trash bag that would eventually tear out of the trash can. We packed up the new trash can and returned it to Target. I searched on Amazon and we decided to abandon the stainless steel round trash can. We ultimately decided to give the SimpleHuman Step Trash Can a try. We absolutely love it. I wouldn't give it anything less than a perfect rating. The bag comes out so easy without ripping. The foot lever is actually very strong. And the best feature for me is that it doesn't slam close. It closes slowly on it's own.Customer Review: Looks nice, closes softly

We got this trash can at Lowe's for about the same price. We also got the matching recycle bins that stack. This trash can fits right between my refrigerator and cabinets - a space normally occupied by brooms and other unsightly cleaning supplies. In an effort to de-clutter and beautify my kitchen I put those in a hall closet and placed this slim and unobtrusive can there instead. Just enough room to tap the lever with your foot and though there are wheels on the backside they are sturdy enough that the can doesn't roll back every time you step on it. The quiet close system is good - the top never slams down. It also locks in the open position if you need it to which is nice for scraping plates and cutting boards into the trash. I do not yet have the special simplehuman K type liners, but our regular 10 gallon bags fit nicely.Customer Review: finally a trash can that outsmarts my lab puppies but not my hubby or kids!

i wasn't too keen on spending close to $40 bucks on this trash can, but i needed it badly enough to cough up the 3.99 for next day shipping with prime. my adorable lab puppies (brother & sister, age 7 months) love nothing more than ripping into a full trash can full of garbage. i think their fave treat, though, are the old poopy diapers that my 1 year old daughter has...and what is more disgusting than finding half eaten poop and shredded pee filled diapers all over the kitchen tile and carpet in the next room over. nasty!
anyway...this can does the trick. the labs can't open it with the lock on, but the kids (ages 4 & 3) and my husband can. it's worth the money, is extremely simple to put together and use, and fits right in with our decor.

Tired of cleaning a stainless waste bin? I was and this was the solution. It has faux steel accents which coordinate with my kitchen, yet, I am not constantly wiping handprints and accidental misses off the waste can. The air pump auto close mechanism like a dream and the locking device works great at keeping my 2 year and my smart lab out of the trash. It's slim profile lends itself to end of counter spaces or even near a kitchen island. 13 gal size is large enough so I am not constantly emptying and the wheels make it easily transported even when full.
I priced many waste bins with a plethora of questionable features and this one delivers practicality, functionality, and great design. Buy it!
